Sharon Core was born in 1965 in New Orleans, Louisiana. She holds a BFA in Painting from the University of Georgia, Athens, 1987 and an MFA in photography from The Yale University School of Art, 1998. Core began photographing while living abroad in the early 1990’s. Her work has been exhibited in the US and internationally since 1998. Recent solo exhibitions include Sharon Core: 1606-1907 at the Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York and Still Lives: Early Works by Sharon Core at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her work was included in Significant Objects: The Spell of Still Life at The Norton Simon Museum in Pasadena in 2012 and will be exhibited at The Amon Carter Museum, Fort Worth in December of 2013. Her work is included in numerous public collections including The Guggenheim Museum, New York, The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, Princeton University Art Museum, Princeton, The Lannan Foundation, Santa Fe and The Hermes Foundation, Paris. Core’s first monograph Early American, was published by Radius Books in Santa Fe in 2012. The artist lives and works in Esopus, New York.
