The Camera Club of New York is proud to announce Solitude of Space, a group exhibition honoring the club’s longtime member, Jerome Mallmann with new work from selected CCNY staff.
Jerome Mallmann, has been capturing the complex rituals of New Yorkers since the late 1960’s. His most well known work, Sleepers and Smokers, investigates the city at its least posed through candid street photography, revealing a nuanced investigation into the solitude of public places.
For this exhibition Mallmann’s work is presented in dialogue with a group of eight contemporary artists. Employing a diverse set of styles and techniques these photographers explore the notion of isolation within the private and public realm. Whether it is Azikiwe Mohammed’s images that depict the habitual break areas outside of corporate offices or Michael Dalton’s exploration into the contemplative silence implied through geometrical forms of architecture – all these artists reveal a sense of solitude within the shared experience of urban living.
CCNY would like to thank all the artists that are committed to maintaining its unique multi-generational non-profit organization and community.
Gallery hours: Monday – Saturday 12 - 6 pm
CCNY is celebrating over 125 years serving the photographic and art community through this and upcoming exhibitions, lectures, and special events. For more information, contact John Stanley at info@cameraclubny.org or by phone at 212–260–9927.
