Statement:
When I photograph a person or a group of people, I am trying to reach the depth or deeper part of the person. Most people hide this part of themselves from themselves and everyone else. I think they forget it exists.
At the same time I am trying to make a beautiful image within the frame, with color and shape and clarity, almost from an abstract point of view. This comes from my years of being a painter, concerned with depth, form, and color. Most of us, from an early age on, develop a mask for other people and for ourselves.
The mask can be interesting as well and I have done some interesting portraits where the depth of the person cannot come through the mask.
